AMBER ALERT EXTENDED TO ALL SOUTHERN STATES SEX OFFENDER KIDNAPS 12 YEAR OLD GIRL Authorities say Newman is familiar with the Atlantic coast because his father was a large boat captain. They think he might be hanging around marinas near Myrtle Beach or elsewhere along the South Carolina coast. FBI is now involved in the case. Newman’s roommate told WITN that he has a gut feeling the two are headed south, and may eventually end up in the Bahamas. POSSIBLY SPOTTED IN HORRY COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA: Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County police said a maroon Sebring was spotted at 7:48 p.m. Monday 9/24/2012 on Highway 348 and at 7:54 p.m., a red Sebring was spotted on Highway 31 at mile marker 14. Kegler said there was no confirmation on tags, just the vehicle description.

Abigaile Faith Lefevers, age 12, was kidnapped by registered sex offender Timothy Howard Newman, age 38, from her Newport, North Carolina home on 9/23/2012.

Abigaile is 5’4” tall, weighs 90 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.

Newman is 5’8” tall, weighs 233 pounds, has brown hair, hazel eyes and a tattoo of a Harley Davidson symbol on his right arm. Newman’s vehicle, shown above, is a Maroon 1998 Chrysler Sebring with NC license tag number AKT6534. It was last seen around 1:42 a.m. 9/24/2012 on U.S. 17 near the South Carolina border going southbound.

The Department of Correction says Newman was convicted in Stokes County in 2004 for three counts of sex offenses by substitute parent/custodian. He served 6 years and 9 months in prison and was released last year from the prison in Carteret County.
